Don’t throw away your old games!

August 27, 2007 2:46 pm

As an addendum to a conversation I had this weekend — DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR OLD GAMES!

Yes, they’re old, and you’re never going to play with them again — that doesn’t mean they’re not worth something — sometimes they are, but they’re worth keeping around for nostalgia’s sake.

If you don’t have room to store them and really want to get rid of them, I’ll happily them off your hands! I’ll even give you fair market value if you have something exceedingly rare. (^_^)

Anything from the Atari 2600 era up to the newest stuff — just not PC games.. though I bet you could find someone that’d be interested in that stuff.

Playstation 3? Sucks. Waste of money.

July 19, 2007 10:58 am

I was lured into picking up a Playstation 3 — a mistake I know, by a $100 price drop and the offer of six free movies and a free remote. The other thing that necessitated an immediate purchase — Sony removed the Emotion Engine (a chip that provides PS2 compatibility) to lower their costs. Starting with the 80gb version of the system, it’s software emulation only, and not all of the old games are compatible.. Of course, no tax and free shipping sweetened the deal, but when it arrived, I was struck by regret.

I was going to leave it in it’s box and just sit on it a while, but if I let too much time pass without testing it, it could be defective on arrival, and I didn’t want to have to deal with a warranty claim. (My Xbox 360 was DOA)

I hooked it up to a 1080P display, and booted it up, updated it, tried it’s DVD and PS2 Upscaling feature, and played Enchanted Arms for a few minutes. A through if not a little quick test, and was left unimpressed. Biggest waste of money since I bought that 360.. which hasn’t been used in six months.

Can’t someone make a game that isn’t based on a sport or a first person shooter?

At least I can install Linux on it and use it as a computer. For what, I don’t know.

SNK VS Capcom.. no, I mean Simpson VS Griffin

May 27, 2007 10:52 pm

This is an unlikely mashup: Two things I love very much — The Simpsons and 2D vs fighting games. I’ll have to say that I don’t like the result. One player obviously didn’t know how to play, the other was really, really cheap. At the end of the video you’ll see the author’s bias anyway. Boo.

Things like this make me want to get back into game design!

Looks like fun..

I, for one, welcome our new Wii Powered overlords

January 26, 2007 3:29 pm

In case you don’t get the reference in the title.

News announcer Kent Brockman mistakes a floating ant in a space shuttle experiment floating close to the camera for a giant space ant:

“Ladies and gentlemen, uh, we’ve just lost the picture, but what we’ve seen speaks for itself. The Corvair spacecraft has apparently been taken over — ‘conquered’ if you will — by a master race of giant space ants. It’s difficult to tell from this vantage point whether they will consume the captive earth men or merely enslave them. One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the ants will soon be here. And I for one welcome our new insect overlords. I’d like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.”

Neo*Geo Cartridges For Sale.. finally.

January 17, 2007 9:02 pm

I know I’ve been talking about it for quite a while, but I’ve finally posted my Neo*Geo games for sale. It’s sad because this is where I misspent my youth. As soon as I got my first job I whittled away my earnings into these bits of plastic and silicon. I did have a lot fun putting the collection together, but after it became obvious that I’d never complete it, I gave up. The remaining games that I needed to purchase would easily top $5,000. If you’re curious about following the sale, I put together a quick site for keeping track of it.

Collecting games definitely became an obsession, and I apologize for the stupidity and the relationships I may have jeopardized along the way.

Same goes with my cars. I might even post my 1995 Mazda RX-7 for sale next. What the heck.. here is a feeler ad. (-_-)

Wii's a babe magnet, says Men's Health

If you’re the type to get relationship advice from a magazine column then take note, Men’s Health recommends picking up “that new Nintendo system with the stupid name.” Apparently it’s been designed to “suck video-game-dissing women into the virtual world,” at which point they become your love slaves. Not bad for $250, eh? Oh, and by the way, I hear the DS works the same magic — and it’s portable!
