Why didn’t I think of this?

Well, it’s not very smart.. I’d be amazed if they get any bids.

“As part of a PR stunt, a Washington Linux user group is holding a “Nerd Auction” and appealing to local sororities to exchange dates and makeover advice for their computer skills and homework assistance. ‘The problem is that we’re all still nerds. Let’s face it, guys. If anyone’s going to bid on us, we’ll need some spicing up,’ writes Washington State Linux Users Group president Ben Ford on the group’s website. ‘And who better to help with that than sorority girls who like nothing better than a makeover?’

MAIDEN, N.C. - A man who bought a smoker Tuesday at an auction of abandoned items might have thought twice had he looked inside first.

Maiden police said the man opened up the smoker and saw what he thought was a piece of driftwood wrapped in paper. When he unwrapped it, he found a human leg, cut off 2 to 3 inches above the knee.

The smoker had been sold at an auction of items left behind at a storage facility, so investigators contacted the mother and son who had rented the space where the smoker was found.
The mother, Peg Steele, explained her son had his leg amputated after a plane crash and kept the leg following the surgery “for religious reasons” she doesn’t know much about.

“The rest of the family was very much against it,” Steele said.

Steele said her son, John Wood, plans to drive to Maiden, about 35 miles northwest of Charlotte, to reclaim his amputated leg, police said.

“Games for Windows” aka “Troubleshooting your Computer”

September 25, 2007 3:09 pm

I recently built myself a new computer — I went way above and beyond what I’d actually need, so I think it’d actually last me a few years before I’ll ever need to upgrade it. (Quad Core, 4gb ram, 2tb raid storage)

I went ahead and put Windows Vista on it — and after having used it for 90 days, I have to say — I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for it. From an end-user’s perspective there is no justifiable reason for you to upgrade. No matter what you hear from the Microsoft hype machine, don’t waste your money. I could go into detail, but there are plenty of activists that could do the same.

I picked up Bioshock due to it’s reviews “The game has been cited as having an “inescapable atmosphere”, “inconceivably great plot” and “stunning soundtrack and audio effects.” and I can’t make an informed decision one way or the other — since most of my time was waste on trying to make it work:

I realize why I gave up playing games on the PC. On a fresh install of Windows, with all it’s patches installed. ERROR. Oh, I need to install this 2005 C++ thing. Fine. Oh. I have to install DirectX 10. Fine. Why didn’t the game’s installer do it? Why isn’t it built into the OS?  Alright.. the game works now. Play a few minutes: Blue Screen of Death. Upgraded the video card driver — phew, I got past that part. Works fine now. <knock on wood> I don’t get how someone that doesn’t have an IT background could ever figure out how to get something like this to work properly.

No wonder I like to stick with game consoles. They just work.

I’m a social networking whore.

I did it.  I finally gave in and and set up an account on Facebook.   I now have an account on the big three sites, though I am officially retiring from Myspace, not that I ever used it that much.  I don’t see how people could deal with how crappy it is.  Pages that don’t load properly.  Fake friend requests, constant notifications, gawd awful page designs with clashing colors and ridiculous amounts of automatically playing music.  Of course, then there was the day when a million Windows users were infected with spyware just by visiting it.  I’m surprised I lasted so long.  Maybe logging in once every few months doesn’t count though.

I’ll leave my account there but don’t expect me to respond to messages or event invitations.

Interestingly, there is this this essay on the  class separation that exists between the two sites.  After only a week on Facebook, I’ll have to agree.

You guys should make sure your accounts don’t get hacked.. or this could happen to you! (Face/Off spoof)

Marvel of Manga

September 16, 2007 10:53 pm

I managed to catch the Marvel of Manga exhibit at the Asian Art Museum on the last day of it’s showing, and I’m glad I did. It certainly demonstrated that manga isn’t just for kids. Some of the pieces on display were definately geared towards an adult audience.

Anyway, in another section of the exhibit, there were a couple glass cases, in them, popular toys from that time period — and well, some of my favorite robots/mecha were in there. Transformers, Doremon, and of course Voltron. The main point of the exhibit was clear — to make me feel like an old man. They’ve succeeded.

I do have to say that they either need to hire a better curator, or acquire better pieces, their Voltron display was horribly shabby. The legs were in the wrong places, the lions weren’t transformed properly, and well, it looked broken too. I wonder if I can get a tax write off if I donate mine. (^_^);;

If you guys are bored, don’t forget I get free admission. ;)

+1 Hyphyness w/ Hyphy Pizza with J-pop!

hyphy pizza

“the pizza that bites back” “Ecstatic Flavors!”

Too bad it doesn’t look very tasty. Maybe if it makes you hyphy it’s worth the $2.99? Anyway, I spotted this at Blondies — only had my cell phone with me hence the poor quality.

I wonder if they’re inadvertently promoting dog fighting too?
